People will often look at their actions, see they "don't make sense," even if they "know better," and try to use their "Reasoning" to Change. This process is shown below.
How Most People Try to Change (that's backwards):
Reasoning: If I Change how I think about the situation, then I will change my... --> Logic: With this improved Logic, I will then change my --> Actions.
This sounds "Logical" and some people can use this method successfully, but it's the HARDER way to change.
The Easier or "More Efficient"Way to Change is by utilizing how people actually make decisions.
You see, people make choices, despite their logic, through emotions. And people's emotions are driven by often subconscious connections that your brain is automatically making at any given time. These "Automatic Connections," what I call Implicit Associations are the stories, metaphors, and pictures that automatically connect what has happened to you in the past - the lessons you have learned in life - and mixes those lessons with what is happening in the here and now. The resulting recipe of that mixing is called an Emotion.
Implicit Associations --> Emotions: Our emotions control our --> Actions: After we've acted, we use our --> Logic. If we're satisfied with the action and result, then everything is good and we don't need to change, but if we do want to change, then we try to use --> Reasoning.
Therefore, the way to Change, is to work directly on those Implicit Associations, those Automatic Connections. There are easy to use Tools (Like the Layers of Metaphor in the video above) that allows you to make change happen much more easily, by going to the source of what controls our actions.
Granted, the Layers of Metaphor is a relatively small Tool in change. You can think of it like a "triceps pressdown" of change (yes, I relate Mind-based Tools to Body-based Exercises). It's good to have, but not a major mover.
In other words, it's a tool that works directly on the Implicit Associations, but isn't the most important one.
